Frequently Asked Questions
Candidates
Many individuals like to have a flexible schedule, so they elect to work as a contractor which allows them to accept temporary assignments and then take time off after they have completed an assignment before accepting another one. In addition, it is a great way to keep your skills sharp and fresh while undergoing a job search, plus it allows you to expose yourself to multiple companies who may request you back, or ultimately be interested in hiring you on a full time basis. Plus, if you are in the midst of a job search, it allows you to earn income while you are looking for a new position.
There are never any costs associated with our services, including all of our added value offerings such as resume assistance, interview guidance, basic job search help, etc.
The usual process would consist of an initial phone call to do a preliminary screening and to set an appointment. We would then meet you in person to conduct an in-depth interview to get to know you and get a full understanding of your past work history and what you want to do in your career moving forward. We will then utilize that information to match you with clients that offer the types of things you desire in your career so that you will be 100% happy in your next opportunity.
As a general rule, staffing firms won’t be too much help for a recent graduate (within one year of graduation) because a law firm won’t typically pay a fee for a candidate they can easily find on their own through a local law school. If, however, an individual is interested in doing contact work, it is definitely worth connecting with a staffing firm.
Absolutely! With some caveats. Employers understand that the goal of many individuals who are working on contract assignments is to ultimately get a full time job. We ask that you schedule interviews over lunch, or before/after work to the extent possible. If that is not an option, please schedule them first thing in the morning (8:00) or last thing in the day (4:30-5:00) so that you can arrive a little late or leave a little early. This way, it does not disrupt your work day.
We expect that you treat every contract assignment the same way that you would treat a full time job, so please plan to give us sufficient notice prior to leaving. We may only need one week to find a replacement and get that individual trained, but it could be the traditional two weeks depending on how long you’ve been on the assignment, so please plan accordingly.

Clients
While there are many, we will focus on just a few. ELS recruiters are trained in the art of headhunting by one of the industry’s most sought after trainers. Undergoing this rigorous training gives our recruiters different methods to identify, select and recruit candidates who are not actively in a job search. These are individuals that law firms and corporate legal departments won’t otherwise have access to because they are not on job boards, they won’t apply to job postings and are generally not out looking for a job. These are working candidates who likely won’t be introduced to our clients if not for the recruiting efforts of the ELS staff.
It depends entirely on the type of person you need, how long you need them, the level of skill set that you need that individual to have, and the realistic nature of the position. ELS will do everything possible to find the right match for you within the time frame that you specify, we are more than willing to work evenings and weekends to meet your demands, and we have a great track record of meeting those requirements. However, what we won’t do, is send you an individual without the skill set that you need just to meet the timing requirement.
We have two main areas of focus: attorney placement and paralegal/legal secretary placement. If you need assistance outside of those two areas of expertise, please don’t hesitate to ask us and we’ll be honest with you regarding whether or not we think we can help you. If we can’t, we’ll be sure to refer you to someone who can better assist you.
No, it really doesn’t. The most effective and efficient way to get the best quality of candidates is for you to work with one recruiting service. When you call multiple agencies with an order, you are, in essence, initiating a race. And the most important thing in a race is speed. So you now have multiple players racing against the clock to get candidate options to you and the risk is that there could be very little effort made to reach the candidates before they submit their resumes to you because they have to be “first” to present them. Then a belated effort is made to contact the candidate and who knows if they’re actually still available. Instead of having three agencies give you 30% of their time because they know they have a reduced chance to win, let one agency give you 100% of their time and you’re the winner with the quality and level of service you receive.
Of course! We offer the following standard guarantees:
